Martha Stewart had a complicated relationship with her daughter Alexis, but everything seems to be okay now. The Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia mogul and her daughter have been open about their unconventional ways of upbringing and it seems to make them closer.
Alexis was born to Martha and Andrew Stewart on September 27, 1965, in New York City. Martha and Alexis have been very vocal about how dysfunctional her childhood has been when she her mother was in the spotlight. “I think we did a poor job as parents,” Andrew told People. “We were too involved in our professional lives and fixing up the house. We were always making the home into a mythological place. But it wasn’t a home — we didn’t spend enough time with Lexi.”

“Feelings, we didn’t talk about stuff like that,” Alexis said in Netflix’s Martha. “That wasn’t part of our growing up. We were loved sort of obtusely when we were supposed to be loved. I mean, there was not a lot of affection in our house.” She even recalled a strange time during the holidays. “She used to make me wrap my own presents,” she wrote. “She would hand me things right before Christmas and say, ‘Now wrap these but don’t look inside.’”
Where is Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis now?
Alexis currently lives in New York City after she and her mother bought a duplex unit in the Upper West Side for $12.3 million. They live in the Belnord, a block-long luxury residential building used for exterior shots of the Arconia apartments in Hulu’s comedy-mystery series Only Murders in the Building.
She has two kids, a daughter Jude and a son Truman, both of whom she welcomed via gestational surrogate. Martha was really happy when she learned the news that she would be a grandmother, and had always supported her through her fertility problems. She also supports her daughter’s decision to not include them in her Netflix documentary. “There’s not even a mention. And these grandchildren are utterly fantastic,” she told the New York Times. “My daughter was very against the children being included. But I could have talked about them, and I did. I’ve taken them to the most unusual places in the world, and they’re only 12 and 13.”
Alexis was married to lawyer John Cuti in an intimate New York City ceremony. They divorced in 2004 not long after he represented her mom in trial in 2003. From 2005 to 2010, Alexis hosted Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer, alongside Jennifer Hutt on SiriusXM’s Martha Stewart Living Radio channel. She and Hutt also wrote Whateverland: Learning to Live Here. “Martha does everything better! You can’t win,” she scribed, per People. “If I didn’t do something perfectly, I had to do it again. I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head.”
However, now Alexis seems to be closer to her mom more than ever. “We’re incredibly close and we’re both very opinionated people,” she said on Today. “So while we can be together having a nice time we can also have an animated discussion slash argument about something. Because that’s normal. So if we agree on everything, how boring would that be?”
